Director of Community Relations and Outreach
Julie Johnson is a Huntsville native and graduated from Randolph School as a National Merit Commended Scholar in 2006. Her continued studies led her to Birmingham Southern College where she earned a B.A. in English, served as an R.A., and was crowned the college’s first African American Homecoming Queen.
Upon graduation, Julie returned to Huntsville where she worked for Redstone Federal Credit Union as a bank teller for 5 years. It was during her time at Redstone that she rediscovered her love of philanthropic work. Julie served as South Parkway Branch Office’s philanthropy coordinator through RFCU’s United Way & Relay for Life campaigns for over 4 years. During this time Julie also spearheaded several other branch giving campaigns that benefited local charities like St. Jude’s and Manna House. Upon leaving the credit union, Julie worked briefly in the biomedical sector at Hudson Alpha but found a better fit at Cyn Shea’s Cafe and Catering as the Philanthropy and Social Media coordinator.
Julie’s relationship with the culinary world began at a young age first in her mother’s kitchen, then through hosting dinner parties for friends in high school, and even cooking 5 course meals in her college dormitory with little else than a microwave and an illegal hot plate. Her relationship with Serving Hope’s Executive Director Cynthia Shea Hart, began when Julie approached the Huntsville Women’s business center to find a mentor to help her recognize her dream of one day owning her own catering business. Four years would pass where Julie worked on caterings with Cynthia and continued her tenure at the credit union until everything finally fell into place.
She now serves as Serving Hope, Inc.’s director of Community Relations and Outreach and works tirelessly to generate & maintain relationships with donors, volunteers, and spur community involvement. Julie has a passion for the culinary arts and for non-profit work that has only been stoked by Serving Hope’s message of ‘hand-up’ ministry.
Julie is a classically trained dancer, self proclaimed chef and foodie, card carrying member of the Huntsville Botanical Garden, and enjoys reading comic books/fantasy novels, and caring for her cat (Charleigh) in her spare time.
